Rohith Reddy, Bioengineering graduate student, has won the best student poster award (Gold) at FACSS (Federation of Analytical Chemistry and Spectroscopy Societies) conference held at Louisville, KY between October 18th and 22nd, 2009. The award was presented in recognition of the work titled “Modeling, Data Visualization and Histopathology using Fourier Transform Infrared (FT-IR) Spectroscopic Imaging of Human Tissue Specimens”. The work presents important advances in using FT-IR imaging for tissue type identification and cancer detection in prostate and breast tissue. Rohith Reddy is a PhD student in the Chemical Imaging and Structures Laboratory, headed by Professor Rohit Bhargava. His research is focused on creating mid-Infrared Spectroscopic Imaging techniques for biomedical applications.
